Downtown Redlands is the place to be when the food trucks come rolling in! You can find them in the municipal parking lot on Redlands Boulevard at the former mall site. Don't miss this great foodie event and be sure to swing by the beer garden - Event details here- https://aboutredlands.com/events/3335-food-truck-and-brewfest
If you have been in cities that have great truck culture you learn they partner with local shops because they are locals too. This is not the roach coach. We will be out of the country but support all efforts to support quality food and beverage in Redlands including on wheels.
The question is: Why will the city bring in outside vendors to a local fest? What happened with the shop Redlands theme that many of us are working so hard to bring awareness to our community? Yucaipa is having a food fest, but only with their city vendors. Maybe the planners of the event will let our town know the reason behind it...We have a right to know!!!
I think you have a legitimate queation. How does it hurt or help local businesses? Who makes the decision and what is it based on? Is it a co op with local businesses? Basically how does the comminity, city revenue, and businesses win? Ask thw questions and we will get understanding and accountability
The Downtown Redlands Food Truck and Brew Fest is being hosted and planned by the City of Redlands. Their goal is to bring as many people to Downtown Redlands as possible. Many (although not all)of the Downtown merchants are excited about and will be helping publicize the event. They realize that Gourmet Food Trucks will attract people to the Downtown Redlands area who would not have come otherwise. Hangar 24 and State Street Winery will be participating as will other Redlands-based businesses. A Redlands company is doing all of the printing for the event. Thousands of people will be spending the majority of their day in Redlands on June 30th. The local restaurants may not get extra food traffic that day, but, I am confident that other Redlands businesses will have a banner day as Food Fest attendees stop at other Redlands businesses on the way to and from the event.
Redalnds please don't be like Rialto and be close minded to the progression of the new hip new way to eat and connect. This will spur your brick and mortar eateries to create new tastes and atracive specials to draw business. Competion is good don't simply run from it embrace it and thrive in it. Plus what else is the city doing with the blighted old mall area anyway? Redlands you are doing a good job and bringing retail, resturants & entertainment to the city don't stop now!!!!!! plus places like Eureka Burger Redlands would make a great food truck you have businesses that would add great things to food truck events
It is a disadvantage to the local businesses in the area. Downtown Redlands are barely able to keep open and we bring outside businesses to our town to take away potential business that is already lacking in our area? This may support the local retail stores, but what about the small business-restaurants? If they are local businesses from Redlands that are serving as the vendors at these events it is one thing, but to allow "outsiders" to disadvantage SPECIFICALLY the restaurants is another.
It's ONE day that will bring 100's of people to Downtown Redlands that would not otherwise come into town. Redlands restaurants need to get creative and find a way to be involved. Maybe the organizers should do something like: visit 5 downtown businesses and get a free beverage from a food truck...or something... Geez people - think outside your Redlands box!
It's one day. For five hours. The only thing it's going to do, is get more people in downtown Redlands, including people not from Redlands. They will be exposed to all Downtown has to offer. As well as, explore a little diversity with all the trucks. And if it doesn't, it's one day. For five hours. Support Redlands, I do. But there's more to the world too.
This is a fantastic idea! Thursday Night Market Night is great and all, but it has been overran by teenagers and there's not a large presence with local restaurants. This is a good opportunity to bring a lot of business into the area. I think it would be wise of the local restaurants to get in on the action instead of complain about it.
Is a fantasic idea. Hundreds, if not thousands of people will come to redlands and get the redlands name out there. If local businesses don't want to get involved then that's their loss. Like the last two comments said, its ONE day. These trucks are not permanently setting up shop. I went to the food truck festival in temecula last month and it was a BLAST! Let loose a little and have fun everyone!
The City is pursuing a comprehensive effort to promote the downtown, which includes supporting the shop local campaign, free workshops intended to assist local business owners and improvements to downtown infrastructure and amenities designed to attract shoppers. The economic development strategy, created in partnership with a focus group of local business owners, also includes a variety of events designed to bring in visitors, some of whom aren't otherwise visiting the downtown, and help finance downtown improvements. Food truck events have proven in other communities to be very popular at bringing in visitors. Other events include Surfin’ State Street and BBQ and a Wine and Music festival. Local businesses have been encouraged to participate in these events. By creating excitement and a sense of destination to our downtown we believe visitors will discover or be reminded of all that Redlands has to offer, which will help our downtown to thrive.

It's a food truck festival. It's meant to be fun and a new experience for people. Just enjoy it and I'm glad Redlands is finally putting something like this on. Please don't be so negative towards something new, its only for one day. With that said ill walk down to jerseys pizza now for an early dinner.
I have been to food truck shows at the Citizens Bank arena in Ontario. These only attract first timers to appease curiosity. As for the food, I would not stand in line for it again. There are local restaurants that offer much better quality for the price. Remember: these food trucks are not "cheap." Besides, San Bernardino County Environmental Health does not offer permits for local food trucks. So, these food trucks come from other counties and take our local dollars back to Orange County, or LA County or San Diego County. Now why would we send our much needed revenue elsewhere? I want to support our local businesses, not cause detriment to them or to our local economy. Many of you that support these trucks are doing so in other counties. How often do you eat at the local restaurants? It is time to support your local businesses and stop taking your dollar elsewhere. This is the only way for OUR community to survive: SUPPORT IT!
Have you gone to other cities and communicated with other city's officials? Do you know for a fact that a Food Truck Fest has increased business to other businesses. Or are you going on a one-day experience? Why are only some businesses included in the planning? What about the downtown restaurants? Are they not a part of the downtown? Is the downtown now the practically vacated Redlands Mall? Why not have local restaurants put booths or trucks at the mall instead of bringing outside business into Redlands? Is this a campaign ruse or is it truly a business-wise decision? Are people suddenly going to say, "Oh, Redlands is beautiful and we are going to continue coming back downtown? Market Night brings people in from other areas. Do they keep coming back throughout the rest of the week days to come downtown to shop and spend their dollars? Come on, let's think this thing through!
1. Have you gone to other cities to find out if Food Trucks draw more people? Yes - call the City of Ontario and they will tell you that The Food Trucks Fests at CBB Arena are great for the city. They have already contacted CBB Arena about doing another one in October. Call the City of Walnut and they will tell you why they have held 4 Food Truck events in their city in the past 2 months. Call the Pechanga Casino and they will tell you that they want twice as many food trucks to participate on their next event in the Fall. 2. Why are some business not included in the planning? It is impossible to include every Redlands business in every event. The Bike Classic most directly benefits The Cyclery and now Dons Bike Shop. However, that event also allows vendors who do not live in Redlands to participate. Market Night draws thousands of visitors each month to Downtown Redlands. Some Redlands businesses love Market Night, other don't. I will post a list soon of Redlands businesses who are supporting and publicizing and those who are participating in this event because they KNOW it will good for Redlands and good for their businesses. 3. Why not include Redlands Restaurants in the event? Because the majority of people coming to a Food Truck Fest are coming for Gourmet Food Truck food. If people want Jerseys or Citron or Joe Greensleeves or Panera or(fill in the blank), they can have those anytime. My suggestion is that you organize an event at the Redlands Mall in July inviting all of the Redlands Restaurants to set up a booth and sell food, the month following the Downtown Redlands Food Truck Fest. Compare how many people show up to buy food from the Restaurants compared to the Food Truck fest attendance. The Downtown Redlands Food Truck & Brew Fest is a ONE DAY EVENT. The City of Redlands will benefit from the admission fee. Hangar 24 and State Street Winery will sell beverages at the event. Citrograph in Redlands is doing the printing for the event. Certainly the City of Redlands is diverse enough to allow one day events that include vendors from outside of Redlands. By next year at this time, I certainly hope we have some Redlands and IE Food Truck owners to call our own.
And how many of the restaurants in Redlands are participating in the Chanber's Cruising Cuisine event? That event takes place before the Food Truck Fest.
I'm thrilled the City of Redlands is jumping on the wagon to do something "trendy." I have been to several food truck festivals (and craft brew festivals) and love the fact that I can try something that is not available to me every day.
As the County of San Bernardino adapts its policies on food trucks, which it inevitably will as the trend grows in popularity, more and more local restauranteurs may take up the challenge and enter the food truck arena. Those trucks can then travel to other communities to reap the benefits and bring dollars back to Redlands.
Most Food Truck Festivals also include a charitable organization with a percentage of proceeds being donated. Has that element been considered for the June event?
This event will be benefiting the 2nd Harvest Food Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside County. We will be requesting attendees to bring a Non-Perishable food item with them to the event and a portion of every Food Truck sale will also be donated to the Food Bank.
We also hope that events like this encourage Redlands and IE restaurant owners and foodies to consider launching their own Food Truck. I was at the IE Foodie Fest on Sunday and spent time talking to the owners of Red Hill BBQ. After seeing the turnout and excitement about the Food Trucks, they are considering launching their own Truck as well.
We are asking all attendees of this event to bring a non-perishable food item with them as a donation. All Food Donations will actually be going to Inland Harvest - http://www.inlandharvest.org, not the 2nd Harvest Food Bank as posted earlier. So, come out for a great day of gourmet food & desserts, support Redlands-based businesses - Hangar 24 and State Street Winery, and give to a great cause!!
All the people that are commenting in favor of this event obviously don't own a small local business. Food Truck events funnel money away from our town since there is not a single Redlands based food truck. There have been many comments about how local businesses should embrace the event and get involved. How would you suggest that happen since none of us own a food truck? We are automatically excluded from this event. The planners should have thought about the actual impact of this event before giving into the trendy hype of food trucks.
